The Federal Government is moving closer to completing the first phase of the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI) mostly powered by Siemens of Germany.
A Think Tank initiative, Tinubu Media Support Group (TMSG), gave this indication in a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja.
TheNewsZenith reports that Siemens will add 2,000 megawatts to the national power grid. This will set the country on the path to efficient power supply.
According to TMSG, President Bola Tinubu’s administration is in renewed efforts to drive the Siemens Power Project to the logical end.
The immediate past administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari initiated the project. The project is poised to address the decades-long challenges in the nation’s power sector.
According to TMSG the current administration’s steps reflect the commitment of President Tinubu to curb the incessant power outages.
By the same token, it will boost Nigeria’s economic development.
“The recent launch of two 63MVA, 132/33kV mobile substations in Ajah, Lagos state and Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi state is a clear demonstration of intent by the Tinubu administration to see the Siemens Energy Power Project to fruition.

“The mobile substations, which are part of the equipment procured under the first phase of the PPI, have injected an additional 123 MW to the nation’s transmission wheeling capacity. This has boosted the electricity supply for all Nigerians.
“The Ajah and Birnin Kebbi substations are two of the components of Phase One of the PPI. Stakeholders described this as quick-win measures that would elevate the end-to-end operational capacity of Nigeria’s electricity.
“They are to deliver an additional 2000MW aside from two million new connections to the national grid. Under this scheme, over 5000 engineers will undergo training to operate the system network.
“We are aware that as of the time the former President was leaving office, this project had reached 80% completion.
“So, going by the launch of the two substations, the phase is inching closer to reality under President Tinubu’s watch,” TheNewsZenith quotes the statement as read in part.
TMSG noted that the next phase of the project would involve expanding the transmission and distribution grid to enable evacuation of up to 11 GW of electricity to end consumers.
“While the country is still in the initial phase, the Tinubu administration has taken steps to decentralise the power sector. This is to ensure the participation of interested stakeholders in the electricity value chain.”
