Awka, Aug. 30, ’25 (TNZ) The Anambra State Government has banned the practice of students writing assignments directly in textbooks, describing it as wasteful and unsustainable.
TheNewsZenith reports that the State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, gave the directive during a workshop for private school proprietors and teachers, on Friday in Awka.
According to Chuma-Udeh, the move is to ensure that textbooks remain reusable.
This is especially, for younger siblings, who may need them in subsequent academic years.
She highlighted the need for textbooks to be inclusive, reflecting diversity, promoting equality, and addressing the various needs of all learners.

“The government will not tolerate non-compliance with this directive,” TheNewsZenith quotes the commissioner as saying.
Chuma-Udeh called on parents, teachers, and school administrators to strictly adhere to the new rule.
She urged stakeholders to report any violations to the Ministry of Education.
She added that the initiative is part of Gov. Chukwuma Soludo’s efforts to reduce the financial burden on families while advancing quality and sustainable education in the state. (TNZ)
