A Chartered Arbitrator and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Mr Tunde Busari, has advocated for training in arbitration practice for lawyers and judges to attract investors into the country.
TheNewsZenith reports that Busari gave the advocacy during the 15th Annual General Conference (AGC) of the Muslim Lawyers’ Association of Nigeria (MULAN) in Ibadan on Friday.
Speaking as the guest lecturer, the Chartered Arbitrator spoke on urgent need to train more lawyers and judges.
He said they need more training in the practice and procedure of arbitration.
This will enable them to know what to do when they have such matters before them.
“Arbitration brings investments. If Nigeria is arbitration-friendly, more investors will come. This is because they know that the country and its judicial system support arbitration.
“If there’s any dispute, they will have a good platform to conduct arbitration the way it should be,” he said.
According to him, more investors will come to Nigeria if lawyers practise arbitration and used it as alternative to litigation.
This will make the nation’s trade, commerce and gross domestic product (GDP) thrive.
The legal luminary further noted that arbitration offered speedy dispensation of dispute and reduced costs, compared with what was obtained in the regular court.
Also speaking, the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Mr Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), remarked that as a Muslim, he would continue to be a proud ambassador of Islam.

A former Oyo State Commissioner for Justice, Adebayo Ojo (SAN) represented the minister at the occasion.
Fagbemi promised not to disappoint MULAN and Nigerians in general in the discharge of his duties.
He advised MULAN members not to hesitate to provide necessary advice that enhances national development.
In his welcome address, Dr Kazeem Olaniyan, National President of MULAN said that no development could take place amid disunity.
According to him, it is the responsibility of Nigerians to work towards unity and development of the country.
Olaniyan said that Islam has provisions and guidelines for good governance, development and unity. He added that religion must be used as a unified factor. And not to disunite the country.
At the end of the conference, he said, MULAN would have been able to send a strong message to all adherents of peace, justice and fairness about effectiveness of the Islamic model of seeking political power.
Islamic model, he added, is best for Nigeria, for peace and development.
Chairman of the occasion, Prof. Wahab Egbewole, SAN, called on participants to show interest in arbitration practice.
Egbewole, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, said there were lots of opportunities in arbitration, that lawyers should tap into.
