2 fear dead as explosion rocks Abuja school

Abuja, Jan. 6 ’25 (TNZ) Two persons are feared dead in an explosion that tore through an Islamiyyah school in Kuchibiyu Community, Bwari Area Council, Abuja, on Monday.

TheNewsZenith reports that several students of the school also sustained varying degrees of injuries in the explosion.

A loud sound accompanied the explosion, sending shockwaves through the serene community about 42 kilometres from Abuja city centre.

Emergency responders, including a police bomb disposal unit, swiftly mobilised to the scene for a rescue operation.

They rushed injured students to a nearby hospital for first-aid treatment.

A security source at the scene alleged that a student, who died in the explosion was carrying an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) which detonated.

The School authorities have yet to confirm the student’s identity as no teacher was willing to volunteer information on the tragic incident.

Also, the Police Command in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja has not responded as Police spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, did not respond to several calls put to her.

TheNewsZenith reports that schools in FCT had just resumed classes on Jan. 3. (TNZ)
