Kano, July 6, ’25 (TNZ) No fewer than 21 people died in a ghastly road accident along the Kadua Kano expressway, at Kasuwar Dogo in the Dakatsalle area of Kano State on Sunday.

TheNewsZenith reports that the accident involved a commercial Toyota Hiace bus that collided with a trailer in a failed overtaking attempt.

Eyewitnesses report that the bus driver veered into the opposite lane while trying to overtake an oncoming trailer. This resulted in a head-on collision with the trailer.

“The impact sparked a raging fire that instantly engulfed both vehicles.

“The fire tragically burned all 21 occupants of the bus, beyond recognition,” the witness said.

Emergency responders later arrived at the scene to recover the remains and launch an investigation.

The incident has once again raised concerns over reckless driving and safety on Nigerian highways.

Meanwhile, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kano State Sector Command, has confirmed the incident.

The Sector Public Education Officer, CRC Abdullahi Labaran, said in a statement that occurred around 8.23 a.m. at Kasuwar Dogo in the Dakatsalle area.

According to Labaran, the crash involved a DAF trailer with registration number GWL 422 ZE and a Toyota Hummer bus with registration number KMC 171 YM.

He added that the Corps’ rescue team, upon receiving the distress report, promptly contacted the Federal and State Fire Services to help put out the blaze.

“The fire service responded promptly, dispatching personnel to the scene for rescue and evacuation operations.

“Twenty-four people were involved in the crash. Sadly, 21 persons lost their lives, while three others sustained various degrees of injuries,” TheNewsZenith quotes from the statement.

According to Labaran, emergency responders evacuated the charred remains of the deceased to the Nassarawa Hospital Mortuary in Kano.

The injured victims are currently receiving treatment at the Garun Malam General Hospital.

“Following the incident, operatives of the FRSC, with a tow truck unit (Rs1.2 Kano) and personnel of the Police, promptly cleared the scene and restored normal traffic flow along the highway. (TNZ)
