Senate confirms Maida as NCC’s Executive Vice Chairman

The Senate, on Thursday in Abuja, confirmed the appointment of Dr Aminu Maida as substantive Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

Maida got the confirmation during Senate’s plenary session, where it adopted a report of the Senate Committee on Communications.

The committee screened Maida on Wednesday, Nov. 15.

Chairman of the committee and former Minister of Communications, Sen. Aliyu Bilbis, urged the Senate to consider President Bola Tinubu’s request to confirm Maida’s appointment as the country’s Chief Telecom Regulator.

Bilbis said the committee had screened Maida and that he passed all scrutiny by relevant security agencies.

He informed the Senate that Maida possesses the requisite qualifications, professional experience and competence.

He also possessed regulatory capacity to ensure accelerated development of the nation’s telecommunications sector.

The committee chairman urged the Senate to approve the nomination of Maida by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Consequently, the Senate confirmed the appointment of Maida through a voice vote to serve a five-year term in office. The term is subject to renewal by the President.

During his screening, Maida gave his insights into the industry, qualifications, experience, suitability, and competence to manage the nation’s telecom regulatory sector.
