LASEMA rescue 5 as building collapse in Lagos

Lagos, April 19, ’25 (TNZ) Lagos, April 19, ’25 (TNZ) The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) says it has rescued five persons from under the rubble of a building that collapsed in Lagos on Saturday.

TheNewsZenith gathered that many are still trapped under the building, which collapsed at about 7.58 a.m.

Eyewitness accounts say the multi-storey structure located on Oremeta Street in the Ojodu-Berger area of Lagos State collapsed on Saturday morning. They said it trapped several persons beneath the debris.

Dr Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, told newsmen at the scene that searchers would work hard to reach ground zero and rescue those trapped.

More search and rescue operations are still ongoing at the site.

As the rescue efforts continue, concerned residents and onlookers gathered at the scene, anxiously awaiting updates on the fate of those trapped under the rubbles.

An eyewitness said he could not ascertain the cause of the building collapse yet. However, he said he had always feared that the building might collapse any time as it looked distressed.

“The this moment, no one can ascertain how many people are trapped under the rubbles, but emergency responders have begun rescue operations,” TheNewsZenith quotes the source, who prefers being anonymous. (TNZ)
