No ship fire at ENL terminal – MD

Lagos, June 23, ’25 (TNZ) ENL Consortium, operator of a major cargo terminal at the Lagos Port Complex in Apapa, has refuted claims of a cargo ship being engulfed in fire at its facility on Saturday.

TheNewsZenith reports that Mr Mark Walsh, Managing Director of ENL Consortium, weekend said a mere emission of smoke occurred in one of the ship’s hatches.

Walsh clarified a statement on Sunday in Lagos. He said that the situation was swiftly identified and contained without escalation.

“There was no naked fire on the ship.

“Our emergency response team immediately traced the smoke and brought the situation under control.

“This is in line with established safety protocols,” TheNewsZenith quotes the managing director as saying.

He emphasised that there was no life at risk, and no cargo, equipment or terminal infrastructure damage.

ENL boss highlighted the consortium’s commitment to safety, operational excellence, and emergency preparedness.

He noted that the quick and professional handling of the incident underscored the company’s safety culture and rapid response systems.

Expressing concern over inaccurate reports, Walsh urged the public and media to verify information and avoid sensationalising incidents.

“Port operations at ENL Terminal remain safe, stable, and fully operational,” he added.

Walsh reiterated the consortium’s dedication to protecting both personnel and cargo through strict adherence to global safety standards. (TNZ)
