Abia State Government is committed to fully digitalising the state civil service system by March 2024, the Commissioner for Science and Technology, Mr Chima Oriaku, has said.
Oriaku announced this during the sensitisation and training for civil and public servants in ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs), on Wednesday, in Umuahia.
TheNewsZenith reports that the state government in conjunction with Xerox Nigeria Limited, organised the training.
The commissioner expressed the Gov. Alex Otti-led administration’s commitment to fully digitalising the state civil service system by March 2024.
The programme, according to him, is about automating all workflows of the state government into a digitalised format for easy management of workers.
He said past governments in the state had kept files in paper and analogue formats. This makes the files prone to losses and destruction by weather and other natural forces.
Oriaku said that digital system would ease access to the government work environment to make work easier for the staff members.
“We should have a centralised data management system so that at any time and punching of buttons, government officials can access data to work with.
“That is why we are in this partnership with Xerox Nigeria Limited,” the commissioner said.

General Manager (Marketing) of Xerox Nigeria Limited, Mr Femi Abidoye, said the partnership was the governor’s idea.
“This is due to his desire for quality service delivery for the people of the state,” Abidoye said.
He said that the purpose of the partnership was to make the workforce more efficient and increase output.
“The objective is to make Abia civil and public servants work smarter and deliver on state objectives.
“To simplify work processes, procedures and work environment, and to move from analogue system to digital system era.
“This will enhance accountability, reliability, productivity and efficiency at the end of the day.
“We are partnering with the Abia Ministry of Science and Technology to ensure cost control and correct records.
“This way, we will not lose data. That is of uttermost importance,” he said.
