Lagos, Jan. 10, ’25 (NAN) The African Development Bank (AfDB) has pledged to work with the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) to develop another rail line to boost the state’s transport system.
The Head of Corporate Communication at LAMATA announced the AfDB’s pledge in a statement emailed to TheNewsZenith, on Friday in Lagos.
Ojelabi said the Bank’s Vice President of Private Sector Infrastructure and Industrialisation, Solomon Quaynor, gave the assurance during a visit to LAMATA.
He added that the bank was interested in partnering with LAMATA to expand the capacity of its existing rail system.
“Quaynor was also in the company of Mr Mayowa Ayodele, Non-Sovereign Operations and Private Sector Equity Specialist.
“This is ahead of a visit by the technical team to assess the Purple line project,” TheNewsZenith quotes Ojelabi as saying.
The Purple Line is a 60-kilometre railroad along the Redemption Camp in Ogun State.
It traverses Berger, Agege and Alimoso and it terminates at Volkswagen station to join the Blue Line.

“The visit follows a recent pitch for investment on the 60-kilometre Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Purple Line at the AfDB forum in Morocco.
Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu recently led the Lagos delegation to the forum in Morocco.
“This is to further discuss collaboration on the project and other lines outlined in the Lagos Strategic Transport Master Plan.
“The delegation toured the LRMT Blue Line and expressed satisfaction with the progress of the Blue Line rail system,” Ojelabi stated.
The AfDB team was warmly received by Mrs Abimbola Akinajo, the
Managing Director of LAMATA, Abimbola Akinjo and other top officials of the organisation received the AfDB team.
