Atula vows to revive wrestling in Nigeria

Awka, Feb. 1, ’25 (TNZ) Mr Morris Atula, a former World Wrestling Champion Golden Warrior, has pledged to revive the sport and return Nigeria to the wrestling map of the world.

TheNewsZenith reports that Atula made the pledge as he declared his intention to run for the post of President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF) on Saturday in Awka.

Atula, who is the Chairman of the Edo State Wrestling Association, spoke on his ongoing nationwide consultation tour with stakeholders.

Although based in the UK, Atula is currently in Nigeria to brainstorm on the way forward for wrestling ahead of the NWF election.

The Nigerian International Wrestler said his consultation started in Abuja with the management of the National Sports Commission.

He said he would visit all the six geopolitical zones and Lagos.

Atula said the tour and engagement with stakeholders would allow him to know the current situation.

It will also enable him to know specific challenges wrestling was facing across the states.

He said as a veteran wrestler, coach and administrator, he had all it took to make wrestling the major medal winner for Nigeria and an empowerment tool for youths.

“I am in Nigeria on a mission to revive wrestling, promote the sport and restore wrestling to its pride of place as the best sport in Nigeria.

“Currently, I am on a tour of the country where I am holding strategic engagements with stakeholders in the sports and wrestling profession in particular.

“I have met with the management of the National Sports Commission and the discussion was fruitful,” TheNewsZenith quoted him as saying.

Atula recalled that  NWF, under me as President, would key into the development strategies of the NSC.

According to him, this is to achieve the objectives of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He appreciated administrators and coaches of the sports, urging them to support his aspiration to be the President of NWF. (TNZ)
