Gov. Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed of Bauchi has approved the renaming of the State University after the late Nigerian nationalist and politician, Sa’adu Zungur.
TheNewsZenith reports that the late Zungur was a Nigerian nationalist and politician from the state.
The university will now be called Sa’adu Zungur University (SAZU).
This follows the decision of the Governing Council of the university at its meeting on May 7.
Chairman of the Governing Council, Prof. Ango Abdullahi, remarked that the approval signified a milestone in the university’s rich history.
Abdullahi, who is also the Pro-Chancellor of the University said the Council was unanimous in adopting the new name.
He pledged the Council’s commitment to ensuring a smooth transition and implementing the changes to reflect the university’s new name.
The university community is encouraged to embrace this historic decision with pride and a renewed sense of purpose.

“Council, therefore, seeks to celebrate the contributions of Sa’adu Zungur and inspire the university community to uphold the values of integrity, leadership, and service that he exemplified.
“The decision to rename Bauchi State University to Sa’adu Zungur University reflects the institution’s commitment to honouring Nigeria’s heritage.
“It will also promote national unity, fostering a spirit of excellence among its students, faculty, and staff.
Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Fatimah Tahir, also expressed delight at the renaming of the University to become Sa’adu Zungur University.
“It is a symbolic gesture that underscores the values of integrity, leadership, and excellence that the university upholds, Tahir said”.
The VC said it serves as a testament to the enduring legacy of Sa’adu Zungur. Aand his impact on the state’s educational landscape of Bauchi State.
She also expressed the belief that the name change would serve as a symbol of the university’s dedication to academic excellence and societal impact.
