Gov. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State says the Nigerian Army is well-equipped to defend Nigeria against all forms of insecurity with the modernisation of its operations.

TheNewsZenith reports that Mohammed made the remarks at the inauguration of the new Headquarters of the Nigerian Army Armored Corps Complex, in Bauchi on Wednesday.

The event also culminated in the opening of the Armour Reunion Celebration held at Obienu Barracks Bauchi.

The governor, however, emphasised the need to strengthen the country’s security architecture. This, he said, is necessary to boost the morale of troops and improve their welfare.

He spoke through his Deputy, Mohammed Auwal Jatau.

Mohammed noted that the new complex would serve as a hub for the training and deployment of personnel.

It would equally help the coordination of the operations of the Armored Corps.

“I commend the foresight and initiative of the leadership of the Nigerian Army in undertaking the construction of this impressive complex.

“At this time of insecurity, it is heart-warming to see the Army taking proactive steps to strengthen its operational capabilities.

“It is also commendable that they are enhancing the readiness of its Armored Corps.

“I am proud and grateful that military authorities established this important structure within our state.

“The Armored Corps will continue to play a pivotal role in the ongoing efforts to combat terrorism, banditry and other forms of insecurity in the North-East region,” TheNewsZenith quotes the governor as saying.

In his remarks, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieut.-Gen. Taufiq Lagbaja, pledged full support to the Armored Corps to reactivate its operational facilities.

Lagbaja said this is necessary for improved operational efficiency to safeguard the nation’s territorial integrity.

He thanked the governor for his administration’s outstanding support to the Armored Corps and other army formations in the state.

He pledged that the Army would remain focused on overcoming security challenge.
