Ilorin, Jan. 15, ’25 (TNZ) The National Population Commission (NPC) says it captured 210,599 children during an online registration within four months in Kwara State.

TheNewsZenith reports that the Director of NPC in the state, Mr Emmanuel Adepoju, announced this during an interaction with newsmen on Wednesday in Ilorin.

Adepoju said that the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) sponsored the online registration programme.

It covers children between the ages of five years and below.

The director said the programme took place between Aug.14 and Dec. 14, 2024, targeting to register 152,828 children.

“We surpassed the target, capturing 210,599 children, indicating 130 per cent success.

“UNICEF provided the financial support for the exercise,” TheNewsZenith quotes Adepoju as saying.

According to him, the commission, at the headquarters, constituted a technical working group, a committee comprising people from the Ministry of Social Welfare and the Ministry of Health.

The committee also has representatives from the World Health Organisation (WHO), National Orientation Agency (NOA), Bureau of Statistics and others.

The First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu is the chairperson of the Technical Committee.

Adepoju said the committee is replicated in all 36 states and FCT, to be headed by the state governor’s wife. (TNZ)
