A pioneer Operational Director and later Chairman of The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Lamorde, is dead.
Lamorde, aged 61, died on Saturday in Egypt where he went for medical treatment.
Twice chairman of the commission from 2011, and 2015, Lamorde joined the Nigerian Police in 1986 and retired as a Deputy Inspector-General of Police in 2021.
Born on Dec. 20, 1962, in Mubi, Adamawa State, Lamorde joined the Nigerian Police in 1986. He retired as a Deputy Inspector General of Police in 2021.
In his profile on the Commission’s “EFCC/Leadership”, “Ibrahim Lamorde, the third Executive Chairman of the Commission, is a retired Deputy Inspector General of Police”.
He was appointed in an acting capacity as Chairman of the Commission on Nov. 23, 2011, following the removal of Farida Waziri by President Goodluck Jonathan.
The Senate confirmed him as the third substantive Chairman of the Commission on Feb. 15, 2012.
Lamorde attended Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology in 1984.

He joined the Nigerian Police Force in 1986.
When the Federal Government created EFCC in 2003, they appointed Lamorde as the pioneer Director of Operations.
In December 2007, he took over as Acting Chairman in January 2008, holding the position until the Senate appointed Waziri as Chairperson in June 2008.
In December 2010 Lamorde returned to the EFCC, again as Director of Operations to replace Stephen Otitoju, the then-acting director of Operations.
When the Government removed Waziri on Nov. 23, 2011, Lamorde, then an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), again became Acting Chairman.
The Senate also confirmed him as substantive Chairman of the EFCC on Feb. 15, 2012.
Late Lamorde held this position until Nov. 9, 2015, when President Buhari appointed Ibrahim Magu as EFCC’s Chairman in an acting capacity.
