The Diya family from Odogbolu, Ogun State, has announced the death of Lt.-Gen. Donaldson Oladipo Diya.
Diya died in the early hours of Sunday, March 26, 2023.
Prince Oyesinmilola announced the death a statement issued at Odogbolu, Ogun state, the country home of the retired Army General.
”On behalf of the entire Diya family home and abroad, we announce the passing on to Glory of our dear Husband, Father, Grandfather, brother, Lt- General Donaldson Oladipo Oyeyinka Diya (Rtd).
”Our dear Daddy passed onto glory in the early hours of 26th March 2023.
”Please keep us in your prayers as we mourn his demise in this period.
”Further announcements will be made public in due course,” the statement read.
Diya was born on April 3, 1944 in Odogbolu.
He was the Chief of General Staff under military Head of State, late Gen. Sani Abacha from 1994 until his arrest for treason in 1997.
He had previously served as Chief of Defence Staff and was Military Governor of Ogun State from January 1984 to August 1985.
Meanwhile, the President-elect, Sen. Bola Tinubu, has sent a condolences to the family of the former Chief of General Staff.
While expressing his sadness over the passing of the retired General, Tinubu in a statement on Sunday, praised late Diya’s contributions to national development and the military institution.
“I send my heartfelt condolences and sympathy to his immediate family, especially his wives, and children.
“Gen. Diya lived a remarkable life of a soldier and he made his mark in the military where he served our country diligently as Military Governor of Ogun and in the various military positions he held,” hesaid in a message wired from London.
