The Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola has described failure as an integral part of running any business.
Ogunsola stated this at the presentation of Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) business certificates to some entrepreneurial students of the institution in Lagos.
TheNewsZenith reports that a Non-Governmental Organisation, ‘Ignite Career Initiative’ (ICI) facilitated the business registration for the students.
According to Ogunsola, failure will always occur in any human endeavour.
“Therefore, there is a need to always embrace failure it “as a friend”, rather than a foe.
“We must strive to embrace and learn from failure and never to give up,” she said.
The vice chancellor urged the “student-entrepreneurs” to imbibe honesty, ethics and integrity, when running their businesses.
“Approach every business ethically. What is in your mind is what you express.
“Guard your mind, as it shapes your actions and character,” Ogunsola said.
Also speaking, Chief Bashir Fakorede, founder of Aare Bashir Fakorede Foundation, encouraged students to uphold ethics and integrity in their business endeavours.
Represented by his wife, Mrs Tayo, Fakorede also emphasised the need to accept failure whenever it comes.
He said he believed in the potential of the youths, pledging to continually support student businesses.

Fakorede urged them to exhibit spirit of resilience to whither the challenge of failure.
Managing Director of NEM Insurance, Mr Tope Smart, commended the business initiatives of the students. He pledged his company’s commitment for supporting the initiative.
The event also featured goodwill messages by Mr. Tobi Oluwole, Deputy Director of Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) and Mr. Uche Nwachukwu, Group Head of Business Development at Bank of Industry (BOI).
They represented the Directors of SMEDAN and BOI, respectively.
A 500-level Law student, Mofiyinfoluwa Akin-John, gave a brief testimonials about record of successes from previous recipients of CAC certificates.
The high-point of the event was the presentation of CAC certificates to 10 business owners.
TheNewsZenith reports that the ICI, facilitator of the event, aimed at empowering young people withlofty entrepreneurial ideas.
It provides a veritable platform to actualise their business ideas with sustainable results.
In September 2022, ICI registered several businesses for students of the university.
TheNewsZenith gathered that the NGO facilitated issuance of 350 CAC business certificates to students.
