French Village gets new CEO as Ayeleru’s tenure ends

Lagos, Feb. 11, ’25 (TNZ) The Nigeria French Language Village (NFLV) has appointed Prof. Samuel Kolawole, formerly with Ekiti State University, as its new Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

The appointment is contained in a statement emailed to TheNewsZenith on Monday evening in Lagos. Mrs Sessi Fagbeji-Agemo, the Deputy Registrar (Information and Protocol) of the Village, signed the statement.

According to the statement, Kolawole will take over from Prof. Lateef Ayeleru, whose tenure ends on Wednesday, Feb.12.

TheNewsZenith reports that the announcement followed the conclusion of the eighth regular Council meeting of the institution.

Meanwhile, the Council has also appointed Mr Ibikunle Oyeleke as the new Bursar for the NFLV.

Fagbeji-Agemo stated that the Council Chairman, Alhaji Labiru Kafur, commended the transparency and diligence of the selection process that led to the appointment of the two key principal officers.

TheNewsZenith further quoted the NFLV as stating that the session also marked the valedictory meeting of the outgoing Director, Ayeleru. The session witnessed an outpour of encomium.

In his remarks, Kafur acknowledged Prof. Ayeleru’s contributions to the development of the village during his tenure.

According to the Council Chairman, Ayeleru’s tenure witnessed improvements in infrastructural development and academic excellence.

“Council recognises his efforts towards improving the Village. He is leaving the Village better than he met it,” Kafur said.

He expressed hope that the relationships he has fostered during his tenure will endure.

“Under his leadership, the Village, for the first time, produced six professors.

“This is a significant milestone in the institution’s academic development.

Former Chairperson of the Governing Council of the institution, Prof. Remi Sonaiya, also spoke at the event.

“The development marks the opening up of new vistas for the Nigeria French Language Village,’’ TheNewsZenith quotes Sonaiya as saying.

She felicitated the newly promoted professors and wished them greater levels of advancement in the years to come.

Sonaiya charged them to remain committed to academic excellence, She emphasised the importance of their roles in advancing the institution’s mission.

She highlighted recent engagements between NFLV and the French academic institutions, facilitated through a visit to Paris under the auspices of Campus France.

The former chairperson described the partnerships as crucial steps toward the Village’s re-admission into the TETFund-funded tertiary institutions list.

“This will unlock further development opportunities,’’ Sonaiya said.

She encouraged stakeholders to embrace a culture of excellence, challenging the institution to pursue world-class infrastructure and academic standards. (TNZ)
