FRSC confirms 3 dead as car plunge into river

Three persons have died while one other sustained injuries in a lone accident around Area J4 on the Ijebu Ode-Benin expressway on Saturday.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the accident involving a Toyota sienna car that plunged into Omo river around Area J4.

Spokesperson of FRSC, Florence Okpe, told newsmen in Abeokuta that the accident occured at 11.55 a.m.

Okpe attributed the cause of the crash to likelihood of excessive speeding leading the driver to lose control.

According to her, the bus with registration number APP 830 HX, was coming from Benin heading to Lagos.

She said rescue team found three male adult dead while one other sustained injuries in the lone accident.

Okpe further hinted the team took the  injured person to Hope Clinic at J4 in Ijebu East Local Government Area of Ogun State.

They also deposited the deceased at the State General Hospital morgue in Ijebu-ode.

The spokesperson quoted the Sector Commander of FRSC in the state, Anthony Uga, to have described the crash as avoidable.

Uga reiterated the need for motorists to avoid speed violation, especially the commercial vehicles.

The FRSC boss commended the effort of local divers for the rescue operation.

He also sympathised with the family of the victims.
