Lagos, Jan.6, ’25 (TNC) Oba Sejiro James, the Aholu of Kweme, the traditional ruler of Kweme Kingdom in Badagry, Lagos State, has installed Alhaji Mohammed Umar as the Seriki Fulani of Badagry.
TheNewsZenith reports that all Fulani socio-cultural organisations in the southwest and neighbouring Republic of Benin grace the installation ceremony at the weekend.
Presenting the traditional staff and beads to the new Seriki Fulani, Oba James described Fulanis as “peace-loving people”.
“Though the stool you are on is too high. God has endorsed you today and He will guard you,” he said.
The royal father urged the new Seriki Fulani to be on top of situations in Badagry communities.
“We have issues of pastoralists and farmers in Badagry but God has always been in control.
“You should nominate someone that will represent the Fulani people in the Kweme Kingdom so that we can live peacefully,” he said.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the ruling APC Arewa Community in Lagos State, Alhaji Saidu Yusuf, called for synergy among the Fulanis and Yorubas to engender unity and growth.

“We should put politics aside and work for the development of our communities,” TheNewsZenith quotes the party chairman as saying.
In his remarks, the Seriki Fulani of Abeokuta and Chairman of Meyiti Allah, South-West, Alhaji Mohammed Laba, said the installation of a new Fulani leader would play a great role in resolving conflicts.
“One of our own is being installed. We are happy we are in Badagry.
“This is from grassroots and it will spread to everywhere.”
In his address, the new Seriki Fulani, Alhaji Umar pledged that he would address the pressing issues of poverty, education and healthcare of his people.
“We must also preserve our cultural heritage and traditions while embracing innovation and progress,” he said.
Umar pleaded with his people to follow the rules, terms and conditions given to them for cow rearing. He also urged his tribesmen to support the Badagry people.
