The country will reap many benefits when the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) completes and rolls out its modernisation project, Mr Ahmed Ogunshola, has said.

Ogunshola, General Manager of the Trade Modernisation Project (TMP), announced this during a media tour of the Project Management Office of the Nigeria Customs Service Trade Modernisation Project in Lagos.

TheNewsZenith quotes Ogunshola as explaining that CMP is the automation of the business processes of NCS.

According to him, CMP will simplify and enhance the experience of stakeholders in the trade value chain.

“This will, consequently, make it easy for traders to obtain import and export clearances, pay duties and obtain the release of goods.

“The major advantage of the project is the significant growth in the revenue profile of the Federal Government.

“CMP will generate more than $250 billion for the Federal Government over the life of the concession,” TMP boss said.

Also, he noted that the project would bring Nigeria to par with the rest of the world, in terms of technological deployment to facilitate international trade.

“Similarly, the project will give the economic diversification agenda of the Federal Government a huge boost. This is because it provides further ease of cross-border trading.

“By the time the project is fully implemented, it will cover all areas of customs activities. Such activities include duties collection, clearance operations and suppression of smuggling.”

In his remarks, the spokesperson of the NCS, CSC Abdullahi Maiwada, said the tour afforded newsmen and the general public to get familiar with the CMP.

Maiwada said the CMP began some years ago, to boost trade facilitation in the country.
