Lawmaker gives N32.5m scholarship allowances to 1,895 students

Rep. Abdullahi Aliyu (APC-Musawa/Matazu), on Saturday, disbursed N32.5 million worth of scholarships to 1,895 indigent students of Katsina State.

While 1,087 students benefited from Musawa Local Government Area, 808 beneficiaries are from Matazu Local Government.

Each university undergraduate and those studying at the Higher National Diploma level received N20,000.

Beneficiaries undergoing studies at the National Certificate of Education and National Diploma levels got N15,000 each.

Alhaji Samaila Adamu, chairman of the scholarship committee, said at the flag-off in Musawa that the Musawa Education Committee facilitated and implemented the assistance.

“A total of 2,364 students applied for the scholarships but only 1,895 qualified.

“The scholarship has no political consideration as all qualified students benefitted,”’ he said.

Speaking at the occasion, Gov. Dikko Radda of Katsina State commended the lawmaker for the initiative.

Radda noted that the scholarship came at the appropriate time when the students needed support.

He enjoined other lawmakers to emulate the gesture of Rep. Aliyu.

“Education is one of my administration’s topmost priority areas. I recently approved the release of money to settle the backlog of outstanding scholarship allowances.
