Lagos, July 23, ’25 (TNZ) The Muslim Congress (TMC) has called for an immediate end to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, describing it as catastrophic and barbaric.

The Amir (President) of the organisation, Alhaji AbdulWasi’i Bangbala, made the call in a statement mailed to TheNewsZenith on Wednesday in Lagos.

Bangbala urged the global community to act swiftly by putting an end to the continuous Israeli aggression against the Palestinians.

The Amir also decried the relentless bombardment, starvation, and destruction of Gaza.

These, according to him, had resulted in about 60,000 deaths, the majority of whom were aged, women and children.

“This is not war, this is extermination, a devastating genocide,” TheNewsZenith quotes Bangbala as saying.

He condemned the systematic targeting of civilians, the destruction of hospitals and schools, and the blockade that has cut off access to food, water, and medicine.

The TMC leader said the world was watching in “stunned silence” as an entire population faces annihilation.

“We marched, not in anger, but in sorrow, carrying the weight of a people’s suffering on our hearts,” he said.

Bangbala urged the world to break its silence and take decisive action, demanding an immediate and permanent ceasefire.

TMC further advocated for the opening of borders for humanitarian aid and accountability for war crimes.

The group challenged the United Nations and the international community to act, stating, How many more children must die before you say, ‘no more’?”

Calling for solidarity across religious lines, TMC appealed to “people of conscience everywhere” — Muslims, Christians, Jews and all who believe in justice – to speak out.

“The blood of Gaza’s children cries out for justice, staining the hands of the world,” it added.

TheNewsZenith recalls that on Sunday, TMC members and the Muslim community in Agege, Lagos, held a peaceful protest.

The protest was an expression of solidarity with the Palestinian people.

Demonstrators carried placards bearing messages as “Free Free Palestine”, “Free Free Gaza”, “From the River to the Sea”, and “Palestine Will Be Free”.

This was as they marched through major streets and local markets in the area.

Grand Mufti of the Conference of Islamic Organisations (CIO), Sheikh Dhikrullah Shafi’i, led the procession.

Addressing the participants, Sheikh Shafi’i condemned what he described as the “21-month Gaza genocide”.

The cleric also frowned at the failure of both Western and Arab nations to halt the ongoing massacre.

Sheikh Shafi’i condemned the blockade of aid to Gaza, including the complicity of neighbouring countries such as Egypt and Jordan.

“It is pertinent that all Muslims across the globe stand against this injustice. We must come together and speak in one voice to end this genocide,” he urged. (TNZ)
