An Islamic group, The Muslim Congress (TMC), has called for absolute restrain against negative consequences as some aggrieved Nigerians prepare for nationwide protests.
TheNewsZenith reports that this is one of the points raised in its 27th series of “State of The Nation Address”, weekend in Lagos.
The Chair of TMC Committee on Social Mobility, the Economy & Politics, Alhaji Taiwo Bangbala, also the Amir (National President) of the TMC, made the presentation.
The Committee is a think tank of professional and technocrat members of TMC for national discourse towards nation-building.
Some Nigerian youths have announced and are mobilising youths to join a 10-day nationwide protest “against bad governance”, starting from Aug. 1.
As the planned nationwide protest scheduled for August 1 continues to gather momentum,
Bangbala, the Amir (National President) of TMC, said Nigerians needed to exercise caution and consider the broader implications of such actions.
“While the right to protest is fundamental and constitutionally protected, it is crucial to acknowledge the complexities surrounding the current situation.
“President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms require time to take effect, particularly amidst the prevailing food and financial crises.

“The current calls for protest, while stemming from genuine concerns, have also been marred by political agendas and sensationalism.
The protest can potentially undermine the genuine pursuit of progress,” the group stated.
TMC called on Nigerians, especially the youth, to exhibit wisdom and explore peaceful avenues to engage with the government.
“Indeed, our voices matter and our concerns are valid. They reflect the widespread impact of the current economic realities and hunger.
“However, rejecting any attempts to sow discord and anarchy is crucial, especially through manipulative narratives in all media platforms.”
The TMC Committee noted that Nigeria is in a critical period of economic reform.
“What we need now is patience and a steadfast commitment to the success of these reforms.
“Let us draw lessons from past crises that tested our nation’s unity and resilience. And the importance of upholding peace and diversity in the face of challenges.
“Together, through understanding and cooperation, we can navigate these turbulent times and strive towards a better future for Nigeria.
