Tax Reform bill, ill-timed – KNSG

Kano, Jan. 3, ’25 (TNZ) Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has voiced his administration’s rejection of the Tax Reform Bill proposed by the Federal Government, describing it as “ill-timed”.

TheNewsZenith reports that the governor announced the rejection during the New Year celebration in Kano. 2025.

Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, represented Yusuf at the annual cultural event at the Filin Mahaha, Kofar Naisa open theatre.

“The Tax Reforms Bill will do more harm to the people than good,” the governor said.

He lauded the resilience of Kano residents amidst economic challenges.

“The proposed tax hike is ill-timed, lopsided and inimical to the unity of the country.

“Nigerians in general, and the north in particular, are growing under hyperinflation and unprecedented insecurity.

“Therefore, the presidency should pay more attention to tackling extreme poverty and hunger, especially in the northern part of the country.

“This tax reform bill is not the solution to our economic challenges.

“Kano State stands firmly against any policy that negatively affects the welfare of our people,” TheNewsZenith quotes the Deputy Governor as declaring.

He highlighted the state administration’s achievements in healthcare, education, road construction, and foreign scholarship initiatives.

The Deputy Governor also celebrated the reinstatement of Emir Malam Muhammadu Sanusi II in 2024, describing it as a victory for the people’s will.

Earlier, the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Yusuf Falgore, extended his New Year’s greetings to all residents of the state.

Falgore called on them to continue supporting the state government’s efforts to deliver the dividends of democracy.
