The Police Command in Bauchi State has confirmed the arrest of two students of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi (ATBU), on allegations of criminal conspiracy, housebreaking and theft.
TheNewsZenith reports that Ahmed Wakili, the Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), announced the arrest in a press statement at the weekend.
Wakili stated that operatives of the command acted on intelligence after an individual alerted the Divisional Police Headquarters Yelwa about a group of students assaulting two of their peers.
He identified the suspect as Bamusa Bako, a 25-year-old 400-level student of Urban and Regional Planning.
The other suspect is Yusuf Umar, a 28-year-old 500-level student of Industrial Design.
“Both both them are from the Yelwa Campus of the university.
“Upon receiving the report, a team of detectives, led by DPO Yelwa, was dispatched to the scene to rescue the victims and initiate an investigation.

“Findings suggest the suspects conspired and broke into the residence of Raji Rabi’u, a 28-year-old 400-level student of Estate Management.
“They allegedly made away with a 32-inch Hisense TV, DSTV decoder, woofer, speaker, a pair of shoes, blanket and prayer mat,” TheNewsZenith quotes the statement read in part.
The spokesman maintained that the suspects are under investigation.
“They have confessed to the offence. They said they intended to use the proceeds of crime to finance their final-year project defence,” he added.
Wakil encouraged the public to promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station for swift action.
