Chief Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Publicity, has resigned with immediate effect.
TheNewsZenith reports that the Presidency announced his resignation in a statement on Saturday.
It was gathered that Ngelale’s resignation is coming barely one week after Director-General of the Nigeria Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ahmed Rufai Abubakar stepped down after meeting with President Bola Tinubu for a routine security update.
According to the statement, Ngelale said he had submitted a memo to the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, informing him of his plan to proceed on an indefinite leave of absence.
At the same time, he said he has also stepped down as the Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Action and Chairman of the Presidential Steering Committee on Project Evergreen.
Ngelale said his decision to step down from his roles was to allow him to deal with medical matters presently affecting his immediate and nuclear family.
TheNewsZenith recalled that in May, President Bola Tinubu appointed Ngelale as Nigeria’s Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Action.
This was as the President established a 25-man committee to oversee the country’s green economic initiatives.

Immediate past President, Muhammadu Buhari first appointed Ngfelale as a presidential spokesman and deployed to the Office of the Vice President in 2019.
He played an integral role in the campaigns of Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election. And he was duly rewarded with the role of the president’s spokesman after President Tinubu assumed office.
His appointment was received with a lot of optimism, given his reputation and the added responsibilities that came with working directly with the president, a privilege he may not have enjoyed before 2023.
The Statement
“On Friday, I submitted a memo to the Chief of Staff to the President informing my office that I am proceeding on an indefinite leave of absence to frontally deal with medical matters presently affecting my immediate nuclear family.
“While I fully appreciate that the ship of state waits for no man, this agonising decision — entailing a pause of my functions as the Special Adviser to the President on Media & Publicity and Official Spokesperson of the President, Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Action, and Chairman, Presidential Steering Committee on Project Evergreen — was taken after significant consultations with my family over the past several days as a vexatious medical situation has worsened at home.
“I look forward to returning to full-time national service when time, healing and fate permit.
“I respectfully ask for some privacy for my family and me during this time,” the statement read.
