UNILAG Alumni Abuja branch plans maiden webinar lecture

Abuja, Jan. 22, ’25 (TNZ) The University of Lagos Alumni Association, FCT Branch, is set to host its first-ever Alumni Week featuring a series of impactful activities, beginning from Monday, Jan. 27.

Mr Chuks Akamadu, Social Secretary of the Association, announced this in a press statement, emailed to TheNewsZenith on Wednesday, in Abuja.

Akamadu said the week-long activities would culminate with the inauguration of the branch’s new Executive Committee, which will serve from 2025 to 2027.

He said the activities will begin on Monday, Jan. 27, with a brief ceremony featuring the donation of learning aids and welfare package to the FCT School for the Blind Children in Jabi.

According to him, there will also be tree-planting to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Abuja branch.

This will hold at the National Park Service Headquarters, near the Abuja City Gate.

Akamadu said later on Tuesday, that the Association would host a National Webinar Lecture.

The lecture’s theme is “Digital Innovations and the Future of Learning in Nigeria”.

The webinar will feature Sen. Shuaib Salisu, Chairman of the Senate Committee on ICT and Cybersecurity, as the guest speaker.

Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, will grace the event as the Special Guest of Honour.

The National President of the UNILAG Alumni Association, Dr IfeOluwa Oyedele, will chair the session.

Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, the University Vice Chancellor and a former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Kanu Agabi (SAN), will be the guest of honour and grand host respectively.

On Wednesday, Jan. 29, a novelty football match between the UNILAG Alumni (Akoka United) and Great Ife Alumni will take place at the Area-3 Sporting field in Abuja.

The grand finale of the Alumni Week comes up on Thursday, Jan. 30, with the presentation of the maiden edition of ‘The Akokite Magazine’ and the inauguration of the new Executive Committee.

Speaking about the coming event, Aliu Akoshile, Chairman of the Association expressed excitement over the lineup of activities.

Akoshile emphasised that the week is aimed at fostering unity, community service, and intellectual growth among members.

Akoshile, the publisher and Editor-in-Chief of NatureNews online/digital newspaper, said the maiden FCT Alumni Week promises to strengthen the bond among members.

He added that it would promote the values and ideals of their alma mater, the University of Lagos. (TNZ)
