Awka, Jan. 24, ’25 (TNZ) Wife of the Anambra State Governor, Dr Nonye Soludo, has vowed to ensure the man, who allegedly set his wife ablaze in Abagana, Njikoka local government area, gets prosecuted.
TheNewsZenith reports that Soludo, founder of Healthy Living Initiative, told journalists in Awka, that she would follow up on the case and ensure justice is served.
“I saw the viral video of the incident and directed an immediate visit to the scene.
“I have received details of the incident from the Commissioners in charge of Women and Social Welfare and Health, Mrs Ify Obinabo and Dr Afam Obidike respectively, who visited the scene,” she said.
Mrs Soludo promised to follow the case closely to get justice for the deceased.
TheNewsZenith recalls that the viral video showed how the victim, Mrs Chioma Nwaka, a mother of five boys, scampered for safety.
She has a third-degree burn around her body.
According to eyewitnesses, the victim’s husband, Mr Sunday Nwaka, poured wet her with petrol and immediately set her on fire over a misunderstanding.

However, passersby and neighbours managed to put out the fire, though it had dealt significant burns to the victim.
Emergency volunteers rushed her to a medical facility in Enugwu-Ukwu, Njikoka Local Government Area. A pathologist at the hospital, however, pronounced her dead at around 3.00 a.m. on Wednesday.
TheNewsZenith gathered that the Police have arrested the suspect and he would soon appear in court to face charges.
Mrs Soludo described the incident as gruesome and evil. She lamented the rising cases of domestic violence and abuse in many homes.
The governor’s wife called for serious social reformation, beginning with a systemic approach to fighting drug use and related problems.
“The state government takes the issue of domestic violence and abuse as serious crimes. No one, found guilty of such offences, will walk free.
“However, the state government will find the best approach to take care of the five children of the victim,” TheNewsZenith quotes Soludo as saying.
