Three tech solution hubs have emerged winners of the 2023 Talent Hunt Research through Hackathon organised by the Nigerian Communication Commission, on Thursday in Abuja, to cost home N10 million each.

TheNewsZenith reports that they emerged overall winners in three categories of contests from 81 entries received by the NCC.

Speaking at the closing of the event, Mr Ubale Maska, NCC’s Executive Commissioner of Technical Services reiterated the commitment of NCC to fostering innovation and driving positive change through hackathons and related initiatives.

Maska noted that the transformative power of innovation knows no bounds.

“Together, we will continue to explore, seek groundbreaking solutions and ultimately contribute to progress and prosperity of our great nation.

“We have the SmartClinic, a versatile mobile and web solution that seamlessly connects patients through a mobile health app with a Hospital Information Management System (HIMS).

“ This innovation boasts an array of features, including COVID-19 self-assessment and hospital registration through the app.

“Other features are instant consultation options encompassing chat, voice/video and comprehensive documentation by doctors.

“In another remarkable achievement, our commission has facilitated the deployment of this solution to four teaching hospitals and two state-owned hospitals across the six geopolitical zones of our nation.’’

The commissioner said this year’s event focuses on three pivotal thematic areas that resonate with global concerns.

These themes are Blockchain-enabled Data Protection Solutions for Enhancing Regulatory Compliance.

Others are Assistive Technology Solutions for Elderly and People with Disabilities and Technology Solutions for Renewable Energy in Rural Areas.

Consequently, I am happy to announce that this Talent Hunt Research through Hackathon is an indication of NCC’s commitment to nurturing innovation and nascent ideas.

“The culmination of this competition is not confined to the grand prize of N10 million awarded to each winner from these three thematic areas for the development of their solutions.

“It goes beyond this, as the commission takes a holistic approach to support these promising innovations.

“We closely monitor the progress of these solutions as they evolve into full-fledged prototypes,’’ Maska said.

In a keynote remarks, Alhaji Ismail Adedigba, Acting Director of Research and Development, reiterated NCC’s commitment to strengthening the bridge between Tech Hubs and the Telecom industry.

“ We will persistently encourage innovative research that mirrors global innovations and also tailors them to local contexts,’’ Adedigba said.

According to him, innovation in communication technologies stands as the driving force behind the telecommunication industry today.

“Technology has emerged as the catalyst that unleashes unprecedented potential in ways we could scarcely fathom.

“Consequently, we will continue to explore advancement in the telecommunication sector.

“And we will be doing so in a manner that is sustainable and ethical. These should be a collective concern for all of us.

“The rate of growth experienced by the Telecom sector, thanks to innovative research, is nothing short of enviable.

“It is essential that the vision of NCC for this competition resonates profoundly with all stakeholders in general. And it should accelerate our collective prosperity through technical efficiency agenda.’’

TheNewsZenith reports that the three winner hubs are Know-Now Limited in the Blockchain Solution category, Solaris GreenTech Hub in Renewable Energy Solutions category and Spex Care Limited in the Assistive Technology Solutions category.

They emerged from 12 shortlisted out of 81 entries.

The remaining nine innovators from the 12 received N500,000 consolation prize each with a certificate of commendation.
