President Bola Ahmed Tinubu said his administration was working hard to reform the nation’s economic and business environment to promote efficiency.
Tinubu gave this assurance during a bilateral meeting with the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, Olaf Scholz and his entourage, on Sunday, in Abuja.
The Nigerian President and the German Chancellor engaged in three separate meetings before addressing a joint press conference.
According to Tinubu, Nigeria has a high deposit of gas and the investment environment and liquid natural gas are improving.
He said his administration had improved the nation’s business environment and “we are going through several reforms.
“Nigeria is ready to encourage investment in gas pipelines. The LNG would facilitate the shipment of liquefied gas to Europe.”
The President further said the government has an eye on that. Nigeria will continue to promote the opportunity for the growth of businesses and partners.
“We are reforming our economic and business environment to promote efficiency.
“You might have read or been aware that we have removed oil subsidies. We’re going through tax reforms to eliminate double taxation and give you better returns on investments.
“And there are principles that will ensure your investment grows and is protected.
“We definitely welcome you to the collaboration; we’re happy this is happening to us,” President Tinubu said.
He expressed the belief that Germany would add more to the value of Nigeria’s environment. This, he added, “we have discussed that”.

On the Federal Government’s alleged refusal to bring 12,000 Nigerians who could not make Germany’s asylum provision and are at risk of deportation, Tinubu, said such persons are welcome to return home.
He, however, announced that both countries were working on regularising the stay of those who are economic refugees.
Responding to the migration question, Chancellor Scholz said the debate was on and, very soon, Germany will address the grey areas.
“The first is yes. There is a need, in Germany, for talented people who want to work in our country. This must be in a way which is a regular path for migrants.
“We are working intensely in this field and we want to make more progress and get things agreed in detail.
“The second part of this is also an agreement that those who do not have the right to stay in my country should go back.
“But this is where cooperation is also important. We will do so and it will be an important aspect of our working together,” the Chancellor said.
He regretted that minerals were ‘just about extraction’ as they ended up in other countries rather than for Nigeria’s development.
“It is also important that we use the way of developing your economy in the fields of the minerals you have.
“I think that the investments into this structure must be easy but also beneficial for your country.”
