NASENI signs $2bn MoUs with Chinese firms

National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) and three Chinese partners have signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) for new projects valued at $2 billion.

Mr Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Office of the Vice President, announced this in a statement on Thursday in Abuja.

Vice-President Kashim Shettima, who represented President Bola Tinubu at the Belt And Road Initiative Forum in Beijing, China, witnessed the signing of the MoUs.

He also said ministers for Foreign Affairs, Power, Works and other top government officials witnessed the event.

“NASENI and three Chinese partners have signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) for new projects valued at $2 billion.

This is as Nigeria continues to reap dividends from the ongoing 3rd Belt And Road Initiative (BRI),

“Another $4 billion is the worth of letters of intent for new projects and investments.

“This is just as the Federal Ministry of Works also signed an MoU with China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd. for the construction of the Lekki Blue Seaport contract at the Lekki Free Trade Zone, Lagos,” the statement read in part.

Shettima commended all stakeholders and their Chinese counterparts.

“Nigeria has never been this ripe and ready for businesses to thrive in. The coast is now clear for deepened economic and trade collaborations.

This is given the painstaking efforts by the Tinubu administration to ensure a level playing ground for all investors.

“This is couple with the government’s efforts at removing all bottlenecks,” the VP said.

Alhaji Khalil Halilu, CEO of NASENI said the crystallisation of agreements “is a fulfilment of the agency’s commitment to boosting Foreign Direct Investment drive.

“This is a very important day for us at the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure.”

Minister of Works, Dave Umahi said the project was another indication that Nigeria still remained an industrial haven for investors.

Umahi made the remarks when signing MoU on construction of Deep Blue Sea Port at the Lekki Free Trade Zone.

The Vice-President also held meetings with several communications, railway, power and construction giants.

The events held at the Nigerian Embassy in Beijing, China.
