An explosion in Kidandan village of Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State has killed one pupil of an Islamiyya school while ten others have reportedly been injured.
Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Mr Samuel Aruwan, announced this in a statement on Saturday in Kaduna.
Aruwan said relevant security authorities are investigating the explosion.
He quoted a preliminary report from the traditional institution and security agencies about the cause of the explosion.
According to the reports, a pupil of an Islamiyya school picked an object from the bush, which exploded amidst his fellow pupils.
The commissioner said one pupil died while about 10 others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
The injured are receiving medical attention at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Shika-Zaria, he added.
“Gov. Uba Sani of the state has received the report with shock and sadness.

“The governor has commiserated with the victims and their families.
“He prayed for the repose of the soul of the deceased and a quick recovery for the wounded.”
The governor appealed to parents and community leaders to increase their vigilance on the activities of children.
The children, the governor noted, are susceptible to various dangers.
Aruwan hinted that Gov. Sani had directed an urgent investigation into the cause of the explosion.
According to him, this is to ensure the safety of the residents, mobilise emergency support and ensure prompt medical attention to the victims.
