Muslim community mourn passage of Osun royal father

The Aromolaran Muslim Community in Ibadan, Oyo State, has expressed suck over the passage of a first-class monarch in Osun State, the Owa-Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran.

TheNewsZenith reports that Asiwaju of Ijesaland, Chief Yinka Fasuyi, had announced the passage of the monarch in a statement, on Thursday in Osogbo, Osun State.

A member of the Aromolaran Muslim community, Mallam Ibrahim Agunbiade, described the late Obas as a philanthropist and educationist. He was also an economist, first-class traditional ruler, writer and publisher.

Agunbiade, in a statement emailed to TheNewsZenith, on Sunday, said the passage of Obad Aromolaran was a huge loss to Nigeria and a deep sock to the entire Aromolaran Community.

He recalled that while alive, the monarch used to donate rams to Mosques every year to celebrate the Ileya festival.

“This is just one out of many good deeds of the Oba to the Muslim community of Aromolaran. Also, his wife during Ramadan always donate items to Mosques for the welfare of Muslims in the community.

TheNewsZenith recalls that the late Oba Aromolaran joined the Civil Service of the old Western Region and served in various capacities, rising to the post of Deputy Permanent Secretary.

He voluntarily resigned from his appointment to set up his private business called Aromolaran Publishing Company Limited in Ibadan on Dec. 1, 1971.

The Company had branches along the West Coast of Africa: in Ghana, Sierra Leone, London and New York (USA).

The late Oba Aromolaran was a reputable publisher. He authored over 100 titles in primary, secondary and tertiary institutions in Nigeria and Overseas. He also contributed to national and international Journals.

“Kabiyesi was also an examiner for General Certificate Education (GCE) Advanced Level Economics for the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) in Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Ghana.

“The late monarch was the Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Yola, Adamawa State (now called Modibo Adama Federal University of Technology) from 2002 to 2014.

“He held the LLD Degree (Honoris Causa) of the same University.

“Oba Aromolaran served as Chairman of the Osun State Council of Traditional Rulers. He was also the President of the Ijesa Traditional Council comprising the 12 Local Governments in Ijesaland.

“He was also the consenting authority over all chieftaincies in Ijesaland,” TheNewsZenith quotes the statement as read in part.

Agunbiade prayed to God to grant the family, the Owa Obokun-in-Council, the people of Ijesa land, the Government and the people of Osun State, Aromolaran Muslim Community in Ibadan the fortitude to bear the loss.

TheNewsZenith recalls that the late monarch ascended the throne on Feb. 20, 1982, and spent 42 years there until his demise.
