Ibadan, Feb. 4, ’25 (TNZ) The Commissioner of Police (CP) in Oyo State, Ayodele Sonubi, has warned motorists against driving unregistered vehicles in the state.
TheNewsZenith reports that Sonubi gave the warning when he led a team of police officers on enforcing third-party vehicle insurance on motorists within the Ibadan metropolis.
He said that people driving unregistered vehicles were doing abnormality, warning that the command would impound unregistered vehicles found on the road.
“From now on, the command will impound the vehicles and take the drivers before the law court.
“Every vehicle on the road ought to have basic documents to ply the road, especially the insurance policy.
“A third-party vehicle insurance is the least of all categories of insurance.
“If a holder has a third-party policy when an incidence or loss occurs, there is a level of claim,” TheNewsZenith quotes the CP as saying.
Sonubi advised those driving unregistered vehicles to go and register such vehicles before putting them on the road.
“The enforcement ensures vehicles are road-worthy with valid documents,” the CP said.
According to him, the enforcement of third-party vehicle insurance would be a continuous exercise.

“This is in compliance with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Kayode Egbetokun.
“This is a means of generating funds for both government and insurance companies, in the interest of individual holders.
“If we expect good things from the government, we should learn to play our role as citizens.
“This is to encourage the government to do more.”
TheNewsZenith reports that the Police impounded the vehicle of a commercial driver for lacking valid driving documents.
The team also sensitised other motorists on the dangers of driving without valid documents.
The apprehended motorist acknowledged that the exercise was for the safety of motorists.
“They are assisting us and what they are doing is for our safety. I will not fall victim again,” he said.
