YabaTech, Wakanow set to boost industry-academia ties

Lagos, March 13, ’26 (TNZ) Wakanow, a leading travel and technology company, has sealed a deal to partner with Yaba College of Technology (YabaTech) in some key areas.

TheNewsZenith reports that the area of partnership ranged from Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) placements, internship opportunities, industry fellowship programmes, and joint research initiatives.

Both sides sealed the agreement when a team of YabaTech officials paid a courtesy visit to Wakanow’s office on Monday.

This collaboration is expected to give YABATECH students a leg up in the industry and provide Wakanow with a pipeline of talented graduates.

TheNewsZenith reports that Dr Mosud Ajala, Director, Centre for Linkages, Partnerships and International Relations (CLPIR), led the College team on the visit to the Tech company.

Ajala remarked that the visit was to enable the College to explore areas of mutual interest and strengthen industry-academia partnerships.

He highlighted areas of proposed collaboration to include curriculum upgrades for Tourism, Hospitality, Business Administration, and Computer Science.

It also entails the provision of industry experts as guest lecturers after the curriculum upgrade.

There will be a personal “pro-bono” teaching engagement by the Group’s CEO, and potential sponsorship of departments in the future.

“Both teams resolved to draft terms of collaboration, develop and sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The resolution also included the establishment of  Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to guide implementation.

TheNewsZenith gathered that both partners hope to benefit from the proposed agreement.

“There are potential sponsorship opportunities and industry engagement for students and faculty of the College,” TheNewsZenith quotes Ajala as saying. (TNZ)
