Afghanistan destroys 70 tons of expired medicines, foodstuffs

Authorities have destroyed 70 tons of expired medicines and food items in the southern Kandahar province of Afghanistan.

Farid Ahmad, the head of the industrialist union in the province, disclosed this on Thursday in Kandahar City.

Authorities have collected the destroyed items over the past four months.

The items including beverages, medicines, flour and other types of food items, were set on fire publicly on Wednesday in Mianko area outside Kandahar city.

Ahmad told reporters that the authorities will not allow any shopkeepers to sell expired items.

A week ago, authorities also destroyed 70 tons of expired medicines and food items in Jalalabad city, the capital of eastern Nangarhar province. (Xinhua)
