Malam Ali Muhammad Ali, the new Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), has pledged to accord the deserved support to the editorial operations of the agency.
Ali made the pledge during his maiden meeting with the management and staff of the agency, on Tuesday, in Abuja.
“The main pillar is the Editorial Department. Other departments are providing support services and we shall give them due recognition.
“The primary focus of any media organisation is news gathering. If we don’t gather news if we don’t provide news, we will be out of business,” he said.
Ali, who is a former Deputy President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), also said there is a need to rebrand the agency’s operations, This is to enable NAN to maintain its pride of place as Africa’s largest news agency.
Ali made the pledge during his maiden meeting with the management and staff of the agency, on Tuesday, in Abuja.
“NAN is a leading news content provider in Africa,” Ali said, adding that its workforce was quite inspiring given its reputation over the years.

“As a young reporter myself, my dream was to work in NAN.
“I see us rebranding NAN. I see us taking NAN to a place that every one of us will be proud to be part of.
“I pray that when I leave, you will all assemble here and say ‘Ali, you have your best’.
“And, I will then turn around and say you guys did the work, not me. Mine is to identify the vision.
“That vision is encapsulated in the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu. We will work collectively to attain it,” he said.
The managing director solicited the cooperation of the agency’s workers toward realising his vision.
He promised to run an all-inclusive administration.
“I shall operate an open-door policy; I will always be available,” he stated.
