Awka, May 25, ’25 (TNZ) Some staff of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, under the aegis of Concerned Members of the Senate, have asked Gov. Chukwuma Soludo to appoint a substantive Vice-Chancellor (VC) for the institution.

TheNewsZenith reports that the professors made the call in a letter titled “Appeal For Restoration of Sanity in COOU” and circulated it to the media in Awka.

They argued that the tenure for the last substantive Vice Chancellor ended on Dec. 4 2023.

The state government appointed Prof. Kate Omenugha, the current Acting VC, effective from Dec. 5, 2023. He had spent almost 18 months in that capacity.

They called for her removal or resignation as she was contesting for the substantive position.

The concerned lecturers alleged that Omenugha had overstayed the statutory acting VC tenure.

“She had continued to misuse the office and flout university regulations. This is an attempt to perpetuate herself in office.

“We respectfully appealed to the governor to intervene, citing relevant laws and the need for fairness and a level playing field for all candidates.

“The governor should terminate Prof. Omenugha’s Acting appointment as VC, since she is interested in vying for the VC position.

“These steps are essential to restore sanity, uphold due process, and ensure the integrity of the selection process,” TheNewsZenith quotes the group as stating. (TNZ)
