The immediate past Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), Barr. Hassan Bello has received the prestigious National Honours Award of Order of the Niger (OON).
Former President Muhammadu Buhari had listed Bello among recipients of honours, before expiration of his administration on May 29.
The NewsZenith reports that Bello received the award in Abuja on June 1.
The honour was in recognition of Bello’s contribution to the maritime sector in the eight years he served as Executive
Secretary of NSC
Speaking on the award, the former shippers’ council boss expressed gratitude to former President Buhari.
“My profound gratitude goes to former President Muhammadu Buhari.

“I am humbled that he conferred prestigious National Award of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) on me.
“This honour, at this point in the history of our nation, fills my heart with sincere gratitude to the president, the government, Transport Ministry as well as the maritime
sector.
“I am grateful that the government had given me the opportunity to serve as executive secretary of the NSC for eight years,” a statement issued by Rakiya Dhikru-Yagboyaju, Head, Public Relations Unit of NSC quoted him as saying.
Maritime stakeholders have widely commended Bello for engendering harmony amongst stakeholders through inclusive and collaborative regulation.
Former Director of Commercial Shipping, Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), Mrs Dabney Shall-Holma, also received the same award for contributing to the development of the nation’s transportation sector.
Shall-Holma spearheaded a project to produce navigational charts for lower River Niger, covering area of 1,719.8km and distance of 593.9km from Jamata to the Atlantic Ocean.
