The Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN) has joined other sympathisers in commiserating with the government and the people of Borno state over the recent flood disaster.
TheNewsZenith reports that a four-member team of the Umman led by its President, Alhaji Rasoaki Oladejo visited the state last Friday and donated N50 million as a relief gesture for the flood victims.
Other members who accompanied Oladejo were Prof. Muslih ‘Tayo Yahya, Executive Secretary; Alhaji Y.K.O. Abdulkareem and Alhaji Murisiku Siyanbade.
Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Chairman of MUSWEN’s Media and Communication Department, said in a statement that the delegation’s first port of call was the Governor’s Office in Maiduguri.
Balogun stated that the group donated N50m to the Borno State Government to support the rehabilitation of the flood victims.
Deputy Governor, Alhaji Umar Usman Kadafur, received the delegation on behalf of Gov. Babagana Zulum. Kadafur described the flood disaster as an act of God.
At the palace of the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Garbai Al-Amin El-Kanemi, the MUSWEN President commiserated with the royalty and people of Borno over the disaster.
“I am here with a delegation, on behalf of South West Muslim Leaders. We are here to commiserate with you and stand in solidarity with the good people of Maiduguri,” Oladejo said.
The MUSWEN leader, who doubles as the Deputy President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) said the flooding brought immense anguish to residents.

He said MUSWEN felt pained as the people were still recovering from years of insurgency, the flood disaster happened again. This compounded the anguish and suffering of the victims.
“The disaster, which struck at a critical time has also aggravated the food and nutrition crisis in the North East region.
“It also damaged vital infrastructure such as hospitals, schools, roads and bridges.
“Consequently, the flooding cut off connections to various outer destinations,” the MUSWEN leader said.
Quoting from Glorious Qur’an Chapter 49 verse 10: “Muslims are one single brotherhood . . . Be mindful of your duty to Allah, so He may show you Mercy” Oladejo said thus. “Whatever affects Muslims anywhere, affects all Muslims,” he added.
He added that MUSWEN felt the victims’ pains and stood with them in this difficult time.
“Our thoughts are with those affected by the flood disaster. The flood’s impact on lives, livelihoods and infrastructure is heartbreaking.
“Let us continue to supplicate to our maker, Almighty Allah, to forgive our shortcomings. That Allah should show us His Mercy and restore absolute peace to Maiduguri and Nigeria in general.”
