Buhari orders implementation of enhanced salaries for judicial officers

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the enhanced salary and welfare scheme for judicial officers nationwide.

The President announced the scheme at the inauguration of the Nabo Graham-Douglass Campus of the Nigerian Law School, Port Harcourt.

The President’s announcement is contained in a statement issued from the office of the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF).

Buhari also ordered the immediate implementation of the scheme.

The AGF, Abubakar Malami, represented the president at the handing over of the Law School to the Council of Legal Education (CLE).

Implementation Of The Salary Schme

He directed the Revenue Mobilisation and Fiscal Allocation Commission and the Minister of Justice to begin implementation of the new salary scheme for judicial workers across the country.

“The initiatives are targeted at strengthening the capacity and independence of the judiciary, as a pillar of stability for the nation’s democracy.

“This administration will continue to support efforts to transform the judiciary, as part of a critical strategy.

“This by ensuring a fair, progressive and prosperous society, with the rule of law as its cornerstone,” he said.

He, therefore, called on the judiciary to continualy uphold the ethics of the profession.

The President urged them to operate with accountability and probity in the exercise of their judicial and administrative duties.

He charged the CLE to sustain the trust by running the project with high standards in legal education.

“The legal profession thrives on sound learning, ethical values and good character:.

“Therefore, it is our abiding duty to sustain high standards for those on whose shoulders rest the future of both the bar and the bench.”

He commended Gov. Nyesom Wike and congratulated the people of Rivers and the justice sector family for the initiative.

He also commended the naming of the new campus after Nabo Graham-Douglas, SAN.

The NewsZenith reports that Graham-Douglas was a former Attorney-General of the Federation.
