An educational consultant has described the use of Computer-Based Testing (CBT) in conducting examinations as the best option for developing the nation’s educational systems and establishments.

Mr Muyiwa Bamgbose, the Chief Executive Officer of the Educational Advancement Centre, made these remarks in interaction with newsmen at the weekend in Ibadan.

The computer expert made the remarks against the backdrop of the recent examination conducted via CBT for 50,000 applicants for teaching appointments into Oyo State basic schools.

Bamgbose who consults for the Oyo State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), noted that the recruitment exercise was sucessful “because the commission adopted CBT”.

He said the examination, earlier scheduled for five days, eventually lasted only three days.

“Due to the nationwide protest we compressed the examination period to three days.

“This wouldn’t have been possible if we had not adpte CBT,” TheNewsZenith quoted him as saying.

According to him, CBT or E-testing is also more efficient than paper-based tests.

“Another advantage of CBT is speed, thus giving the chance to deal with many people simultaneously at minimal time.

“It eliminates all forms of examination malpractices and promotes transparency.

“The use of CBT will also enhance the quick and accurate release of examination results,” he said.

Bamgbose, therefore, urged the federal and state governments, including private establishments to embrace CBT for their different examinations.

“The computer age has taken over the dark age and employers must seek digitally competent employees,” he said.
