The Centre for Media, Policy and Accountability (CMPA), has begun the implementation of the Nigeria Anti-Corruption Performance Public Reporting (NAPPR) Project 2023 in the country.
The project is in partnership with Anti-Corruption Agencies (ACAs) in the country.
Ibrahim Yusuf, CMPA’s Director of Communications, Outreach and Advocacy, announced this in a statement mailed the statement to The NewsZenith on Sunday.
NAPPR is the MacArthur Foundation-funded project, set out to conduct research, advocacy, public engagement and capacity development.
The aim of the project is to conduct research, advocacy, public engagement and capacity development
NAPPR poises to implement the project in collaboration with ACAs including EFCC, ICPC, CCB, CSOs and media organisations.
CMPA is ready to publish the first edition of a Harmonised Anti-Corruption Performance Report for 2017-2022.
The director stated that CMPA recently paid advocacy visits to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
Project Manager, Dr Suleiman Suleiman, said the project aimed to support ACAs towards developing a standard reporting template.
Such a template would correctly highlight and project the ACAs’ work locally and globally.
“It will build the capacity of the agencies to develop and present their performance in such a way that will be more appreciated by Nigerians.

“It will also be in line with metrics used by global anti-corruption rating bodies like Transparency International,” the statement quoted Suleiman as saying.
At all the ACAs visited, the team leader explained the different components of the project.
These include research, advocacy, round table meetings with stakeholders and training for ACAs and the media.
Suleiman emphasized the need for the ACAs to support CMPA in developing a standardised template for reporting.
This will bridge the gap in reporting anti-corruption activities in Nigeria.
Meanwhile, representatives of the ACAs, who spoke during advocacy visits, described the project as timely.
They advised the centre to implement projects in line with National Anti-Corruption Strategy (NACS).
NACS is a working document for ACAs in Nigeria.
They also advised the CMPA to develop a domestic perception index for measuring anti-corruption performance in Nigeria as against the index used by international organisations.
CMPA is an independent not-for-profit organisation, incorporated with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) in 2022.
It focuses on anti-corruption, research, public policy analysis, transparency and accountability to strengthen social, economic and democratic governance in Nigeria.
