A Federal High Court, sitting in Kano, has nullified the candidature of Alex Otto, the Abia State Governor-elect.

The court also voided the nomination of all candidates of the Labour Party (LP) in both Abia and Kano States.

Presiding judge, Justice M.N. Yunusa ruled that their emergence as candidates, was not in compliance with the provisions of the 2022 Electoral Act.

A copy of the judgement delivered by the court was made available to newsmen on Friday.

One Mr Ibrahim Ibrahim filed the suit, numbered FHC/KN/CS/107/2023, against the LP and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The court ruled that failure of the LP to submit its membership register to INEC within 30 days before their primaries had rendered the process invalid.

“The party that has not complied with the provisions of the electoral act cannot be said to have a candidate in an election.

”And, it cannot be declared winner of an election.

”This being so, the votes credited to the 1st defendant is a wasted vote,” the Judge ruled.
