The National Civil Society Council of Nigeria (NCSCN) has commended the Federal Government for making efforts to ensure Nigerians buy petrol at the cheapest cost possible.
TheNewsZenith reports that Charles Ibiang, NCSCS’s Director of Petroleum and Natural Resources, said this at a news conference in Abuja.
Ibiang explained that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Company (NNPCL) had secured the product at the minimal cost of N898.
He commended NNPCL for showing good faith in DRL to rid Nigeria of the energy crisis.
“The government has taken away subsidy but will the people be allowed to buy fuel in their own country at N1,300? That is where NNPCL need to step in as the supplier of last resort.
“That minimal cost is what NNPCL can secure, for now, They negotiated and secured.
“Recall slot of figures came out from N760 and that we have not gone to that because the sale of crude in naira will start on Oct. 1.
“Dangote bought the crude it is selling now with dollars. So, the cost of their products Dangote would come out soon,” TheNewsZenith quotes him as saying.
He also explained that Dangote Refinery Limited (DRL) management had also shown good faith by giving Nigeria a refinery.
Ibiang, however, urged the company to come out with the truth concerning the quantity and pump price of the product.

Also speaking, Mr Blessing Akinlosotu, NSCSN’s Executive Director, said it was unfair to say that NNPCL is exploiting Nigerians by selling petrol at exorbitant prices.
Rather, Akinlosotu said Nigerians should see the positives in the partnership between the Federal Government and DRL.
According to him, Nigerians should see it as a positive development.
“News of the commencement of the operation of DRL rekindles our hopes,” TheNewsZenith quotes Akinlostu as saying.
He, however, said that NCSCN was not comfortable with allegations and counter-allegations regarding petrol prices emanating from both NNPCL and Dangote refinery quarters.
“Nigerians believe that this will end the era of fuel scarcity and reduce the pump price of petrol.
“It then came to the CSOs as a rude shock and a naked dance in public by concerned actors.
“We are worried to read the allegations and counter-allegations coming from both the DRL and NNPCL over operational cost and pricing of products,” he said.
He urged both parties to work together in the best interest of Nigerians.
