Security agencies collaborate to combat drugs, arms smuggling

Lagos, May 23, ’25 (TNZ) Three security agencies have teamed up to combat the menace of smuggling narcotic drugs and ammunition into the country through the waterways.

TheNewsZenith reports that the agencies are the Nigeria Customs Service, the Police and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

Under the collaboration, our correspondent gathered that the Western Command of the NSC has sought collaboration with the Marine Police and the narcotics officials to combat the menace headlong.

The Customs Area Controller, Patrick Ntadi, sought collaboration when his team visited the Marine Police and National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) commands in Lagos on Wednesday.

Ntadi said he visited the two sister agencies to synergise and build robust relationships to achieve success in their core assignments of maritime security in the country.

He advocated for collaboration through intelligence sharing among the security agencies.

“In customs operations, the first agency to ask for backup is the Police.

“It is only when we assist each other that we achieve more success.

“We need to resolve the issue of rivalry between lower-level officers of customs and the Police.

“The officer sees operations as competition; I believe, as time goes on, we will resolve that.

“The level of unwanted substances coming through the waterways is high, compared to the land. That is why we need to collaborate.

“There is a lot of insecurity in the system, which is affecting our economy,” TheNewsZenith quotes Ntadi as saying.

Also speaking, the AIG in charge of the Maritime Police Command, Musa Garba, remarked that no organisation could succeed without synergy.

Garba frowned at the issue of rivalry. He added that he had been an advocate of ensuring that the rivalry issue was resolved.

He advised officers to always advise their colleagues to shun rivalry and adopt collaboration for the betterment of the country. (TNZ)
