The Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, sought collaboration with the Swedish Government on using technology to improve early child education in the country.

Mamman made the request when he received Swedish Ambassador to Nigeria, Annika Hahn-Englund, in his office, on Tuesday in Abuja.
He said there were many Swedish ICT-based companies in Nigeria. And that the country would want to utilise their expertise in the education sector.
“From primary school, we want to expose our children to technology and skills.
This will enable them to grow with tech and develop critical thinking capabilities for future skills.
“We want to leverage your expertise and experience in our plans to integrate technology and skills into our schools’ curriculum,” the minister said.
Mamman said the Swedish Education First programme supports use of indigenous languages in the learning process.
It also gives scholarships to Nigerian students.

The minister sought a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance the proper channelling of cooperation and other activities between both countries.
He suggested that there was an existing draft MOU that could be jointly worked on.
The Swedish Ambassador, Hahn-Englund had earlier hinted that she had come to explore areas of collaboration with the ministry.
She specifically sought working relations with the National Universities Commission (NUC).
The Ambassador said her home country has many digital platforms for cooperation and tourism, among others in Nigeria.
“In Nigeria for instance, we have the Education First digital platform, which supports learning at all levels of education,” she said.
