Gov. Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has expressed disappointment with the poor performance of two government agencies, ordering their complete overhaul.
TheNewsZenith reports that the agencies are the Refuse Management and Sanitation Board (REMASAB) and Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA).
Yusuf’s resentment is contained in a statement issued by Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, his Spokesperson on Sunday in Kano.
The Governor said the two government agencies failed in discharging their public responsibilities.
He also ordered the management of the two agencies to submit a comprehensive inventory of their equipment to ascertain the poor state of facilities.
According to the statement, the Governor gave the orders after an unscheduled visit to the two government agencies.
During the visit, he lamented inefficiency in the management of facilities and personnel of the agencies.
The docility of the agencies worries the governor, according to the statement.
He regretted the poor productivity of the government agencies despite huge investment and equipment procurement.
At REMASAB, Gov. Yusuf discovered only seven out of 30 waste evacuation trucks were functioning.

This is just as only three out of 15 payloaders are working.
The statement said only 10 workers of REMASAB are permanent and pensionable. Others are casual labourers.
Gov. Ysusf expressed concern with the situation of casual staff, describing it as inhuman to keep such personnel for 20 years.
Also at KAROTA, the Governor witnessed how most of its operational vehicles are grounded with reckless abandonment.
Dissatisfied with the development, Yusuf directed the management to submit a comprehensive inventory of the agency’s operational vehicles to his office immediately.
“I am not happy with what I saw at the two agencies. This calls for a total overhaul of the system.
“We cannot afford to fail in the discharge of the mandate of agencies like KAROTA and REMASAB,” he said.
The Governor directed the managing directors of the agencies to report to his Chief of Staff for an emergency meeting.
The meeting will address the immediate challenges of the agencies to finding lasting solutions.
