Awka, July 1, ’25 (TNZ) Daredevil gunmen from Ebonyi state have reportedly murdered thirteen persons in Ogboji, Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State, on Monday.
TheNewsZenith reports that the attack happened between 6.00 and 7.00 on Monday afternoon, throwing the affected families and the Ebonyi diaspora in mourning.
In the aftermath of the killing, the Association of Non-Indigenes in Anambra State (ANIAS), condemned the heinous act. It called for a thorough investigation into the massacre.
ANIAS President, Chigozie Nweke, in a statement, commiserated with the bereaved families.
Nweke appealed to Gov. Chukwuma Soludo to deploy all state resources to investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.
A survivor in the attack, Mr Augustine Odom, described the attack as sudden and unprovoked.
Odom, who is also the chairman of the Ebonyi community in Ogboji, said the community was holding its regular monthly meeting when the assailants struck.
“The attackers demanded the group’s minute book, seized it, and opened fire on the participants. They killed 13 members of the association on the spot.
“Odom and the treasurer survived with gunshot wounds and are currently receiving treatment,” TheNewsZenith quotes Nweke as saying.

He emphasized the need for the government to assert its authority and utilise all security networks to apprehend the perpetrators.
ANIAS President also appealed to the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Ikioye Orutugu, to mobilise the Command’s personnel to hunt down the culprits.
Reacting to the incident, however, the Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed 10 persons dead as against 13, earlier reported by the media.
Orutugu assured that the Command would make all efforts to hunt down the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
“The Anambra State Police Command condemned the indiscriminate shooting incident that resulted in serious injuries and fatalities to ten persons. This happened in the evening of June 30, at Ogboji, Orumba South Local Government Area.
“The Police has assured that the command will hunt down the perpetrators and bring them to justice. The armed criminals came in two Sport Utility Vehicles (SUV) and attacked the gathering of a group unprovokedly, shooting sporadically.
“Emergency responders rushed the victims to the Hospital. Regrettably, 10 (ten) people were confirmed dead. The bodies have been deposited in the morgue.
“Meanwhile, the Police has condoned off the scene and are gathering necessary information to arrest the preparators.” (TNZ)
